We are a semi-structured environment, with a Monday-to-Saturday schedule of Programming including;
There is staff in the house 6 days a week
Sundays are community days for the girls in-house
We focus on eating all foods in moderation, We are a non-diet approach and we work with each individual to go from active eating disorder behaviours and diet mentality to learning how to get in tune with their unique bodies. When a patient arrives, we start with mechanical eating, on a schedule until they go from famine response to having their hunger cues waking up and learning what those sensations are within their body.
We teach intuitive eating and apply mindfulness to each snack and meal, each patient is required to eat 3 meals and 3 snacks a day.
Each meal and snack is eaten together as a house
We have a minimum requirement of 2 months as an inpatient at Blossom Place, after 2 months we do month-by-month based on where the patient is at in their healing process.
Blossom Place has 7 beds
Blossom Place is Health at every size (HAES), and Intuitive eating based.
We know that eating disorders do not discriminate, therefore we work with all eating disorders and all body types. We are not number-based nor base someone’s progress on their weight, our focus here at Blossom Place is to get everyone to learn how to accept and nourish their own unique body. By eating all foods in moderation, having variety in our meals, and moving our bodies for joy rather than punishment we scientifically all get to our set point base weight. We focus a lot on what our bodies' needs are and learn to trust that our bodies know what to do with the food.
We work with a wide variety of eating disorders and disordered behaviours, being HAES based we believe that everybody deserves a chance at recovery regardless of their size, shape, race, or age, as long as they are willing to do the work, and are medically stable to attend the Blossom Program.
Blossom Place is an alcohol and drug-free environment, and having coinciding mental health conditions with an active eating disorder is quite common. With Blossom being a community-based program we can provide support and guide those who need additional support in other coinciding mental health difficulties if it reaches beyond what we specifically focus on at Blossom Place.
We are a semi-structured environment, the girls that come as inpatient to blossom need to be in a place where they are willing to actively work on their recovery. They are required to be medically stable and be in a place to responsibly take their medication. Medication is in lock boxes and monitored by camera but we do not distribute the medication to patients.
We do not have 24-hour staff in the house, nor do we have nurses or doctors in Blossom, there are gaps in between programming and the patient is responsible for utilizing that time. We do have staff that works in the house full-time hours Monday-Saturday, support and accountability are available 24-7.
The house is monitored with cameras to monitor for active eating disorder behaviours as well as sensors and alarms on fridge and cupboards that help keep them accountable for eating disorder behaviours.
We have a firm structured program in place to provide a behaviour-free environment.
Blossom Place is community-oriented, the girls in the house team up to support each other, which separates us from a treatment facility.
We teach each induvial how to actively live their life free from eating disorder behaviours, such as teaching them how to take care of themselves and helping them get back into being an independent active member of society.
Blossom Place has a non-refundable 2-month policy, after 2 months if the patient wants to extend their stay we do a month-by-month no-refund policy agreement.
Blossom Place is a private program, which means we do not have any funding available for Blossom Place. We work primarily with private referrals, a doctor referral is not required, however, requires you to have a doctor's note stating you are medically stable and meet the screening protocol to to attend the inpatient program at Blossom Place. We require you to stay actively working with your family doctor/ and psychiatrist if you have one while attending Blossom Place.
The short answer is no. However, in many cases, for someone who has experienced trauma, it can come with a complete loss of control. The loss of control can be a moment in time or it can be enduring. Then what happens, is the mind needs to cope with the trauma and the shortest route to cope is to seek control through other means such as disordered eating, fixation on body image, OCD, anxiety, perfectionism and so on.
